Hybrid Working and the Increase of Cyber Risks
Recent research shows that many organisations across the UK will be adopting the hybrid working post-pandemic. A high number of businesses are concerned that this will expose them to additional cyber threats, however, not all are taking the appropriate actions. So, what can we do about it?
Without questions, the pandemic has heightened worries about online security. More than 50% of UK businesses feedback that working from home during the pandemic has left their IT systems vulnerable and at higher risk of cyberattacks. Approximately 10% of SME businesses said they had been the victim of a cyberattack last year, increasing to approximately 15% in larger companies.
Despite these findings, four out of five respondents said they did not have accredited cyber security measures in place to prevent cyberattacks.
Hybrid working is here to stay – and so are cybercriminals
In a survey Kogo published last year, we asked businesses how they intended to work going forward. Our survey revealed that 88% would split between the office and remote working and 12% said they would be back in the office fully.
Hybrid working comes with additional risks. Employees are often less vigilant when in the comfort of their own homes, so businesses are urged to ensure that they consider the cyber security measures they have in place when making such significant decisions.
Cyber security measures to consider when going hybrid
First things you should be thinking about when adopting a hybrid working model:
- Multifactor authentication (also known as two-factor authentication) adds an extra layer of security to the login process.
- User awareness training to help employees remain vigilant against potential attacks.
- Mobile device management controls how work devices are used and keeps your organisation’s data protected and isolated from employees’ personal data.
- Cloud endpoint security to protect against emerging cyber threats for your organisation’s PCs and laptops no matter their location.
